Looking for help building a Gaming computer

So I want to make the conversion to pc gaming thanks in large part to my friend who is an avid pc gamer. I've learned a fair bit about the components of a computer, but im a little puzzled as to which parts would be good together. I already have a motherboard not sure what brand but i do know its a 750i. I've already settled on a high end case, CPU cooling system, 2TB worth of hard drive space, and was looking at gtx 260, but that's it. Also I need to know what cables i will need to purchase that aren't includes with suggested hardware. what I was hoping some members on here could suggest quality parts. I am currently planning to invest in a 5 year computer with a budget of $800. I'm not sure what other information you need but i'd be happy to provide any other information that would assist you all. thanks!

Ok well your budget is 800$ and you want it to last 5 years. A GTX 260 won't max out games to this date let alone 5 years from now. So to be honest if you can wait and gather up some more cash it would help a lot. If running games at medium won't bother you then your fine. I don't know as much as most these guys so lisen to them :). For a 4-5 year pc at high i'd say you would need gtx 285 and up sli. 6gb ddr3, i7 920 and oc it if you dont oc then i7 960.

My GTX 260 can max all my games except the two obvious ones, Crysis and GTA4. It will actually play them maxxed, but the framerates get below 20fps,
so not playable really. Just wanted to stick up for a great card, but it's not worth the money at the moment.

But right now, I wouldn't buy an nVidia card because of ATI's current lineup.
You simply can't beat the price, performance wise.

Absolutely no need to buy anything more expensive than a 920.

You can't build a computer that will play the games in 5 years... at least not on high settings. I'd prepare for upgrades. Get a mobo capable of sli and then when you get the cash you could buy a second graphics card to help play the games.

I guess you're right, before i stepped up to gtx 285 sli my old 8800gtx played everything. I still have it in my second comp and it plays crysis on high fine.

Yeah, definitely not a bad card, but with the ATI stuff right now, it would be hard to buy one.

My friend uses a GTX 260 and it works great which is why i was going to invest in one. Im not really a graphics whore all though they are still important. if not a gtx 260 what would be an acceptable replacement?

I'm settled on a 750watt power supply. any thoughts on a good processor? It needs to be by Intel so it works with my mother board. i was looking at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115207
what do you all think or should i look at something a little more pricey
