Computer Beeps a few times then restarts

My computer beeps a few times when I turn it on and turns off after 10 seconds or it will restart and just keep restarting, but most times it just shuts down.

If I turn it straight back on theres no beeps - it just starts for 5 seconds and turns off.

Any ideas whats up?

turn it off, unplug for some time, about an hour or day.
when you turn it on next, make note of how many beeps it makes and any onscreen messages.

post back when you know this, maybe there's a clue in there somewhere

Yes, the number and sequence of beeps would help. It sounds like you have a thermal problem or a power supply issue.

I turned it on this morning and it does one beep then a few very fast ones, sounds like three beeps but they are really close and fast, its hard to tell.

So I turned it back off - then put it back on to here again and the computer lasted about 3 seconds and turned off and thats all its doing now.

Any ideas?

That sounds like a memory failure. Try pulling out your RAM modules and placing them in one at a time. Start with one, and if the computer boots normally, shut it down and add the next one. Keep going until you find a failure.

If the computer will not boot, try a different module and set the one you just tried aside.

I have tried everyone of the 4 ram sticks seperately and they all just keep doing the same thing, fan spins for 5 seconds and then it shuts off again

Unplug all hard drives, cd/dvd rom drives, all the cards (sound, video, lan), also unplug all USB cords, phone lines, and the lan cable. Add once piece of hardware at a time starting with the HDD, then cd/dvd rom, video, sound, key board. If no problems there, it's as mentioned above: bad CPU or mother board.
