on my old computer i have a ide hard drive.(computer no longer works)
and the new computer im building they are satas.

could i hook up my ide as a slave to a friends computer. transfer everything on the harddrive to an external hard drive. then hook the external up to my new computer and transfer it onto the sata?

is this possible? or is there an easier way to do this?
i have a ton of music and pictures that i don't want to lose
theres like 34 gigs of music

Yeah sure, if you have a IDE cable you could just plug it up to yours. That is if you have a IDE slot, most boards have atleast one.

check to see if you have an ide port on your motherboard. if you do, then just find an ide cable with two inputs (hard drive and cd drive are both the same and both necessary for startup) on it and set the cd drive to slave and the hard drive to master, then transfer all of your files. that is actually how i have my system set up right now (not for long though :) ).
