Core i7 Ripping CD slower than Pentium 4??

For the first time since I built my PC - I went to rip a CD using Windows Media Player that came installed with Windows 7 RC.

Much to my surprise, I was expecting it to Rip like a jackrabbit - but my old Pentium 4 Ripped faster than this thing. It's not that it's just slow - it is not ripping. I've stopped and started a few times - and I'm confused at what is the problem.

Does anybody have a suggestion - I don't RIP cd's all the time - but I'll need to do it more than once - and my otherwise awesome PC experience with my first build - has given me a quagmire.

Anybody have a similar problem - that they were able to resolve?

Here goes your problems:

1) You are using WMP. Find a better way to rip CDs. If you want real high quality look for FLAC or OGG rippers. Win Amp supports both those file types.

2) You are using an RC OS. Most likely they did not touch up the multimedia functions in the RC because that is typically the last to be touched.


Try third party app
 
I can do that.

I checked download.com for FLAC and OGG - and didn't come up with anything. Do you have a free Ripping software link that's malaware free that I can try?

Edit: I used the Windows Media Player 11 Ripper on my old P4 Win XP computer - and it worked fine. Since my OP - I've been ripping a CD - and it just now finished 1 of 10 tracks - to give you an idea of how slow this thing is ripping.

I found a link on Microsoft website for Win 12 media player. It's a big file - maybe it'll solve the problem - I'll let ya know if it goes well.

It's looking like you found teh culprit. None of the downloads on MSFT are compatible with my RC O/S. :confused:
