I've finally got a new motherboard to run my dual core cpu. so i set it all up and it looks great and whatnot. my only problem is, i only have one ide slot and my ide controller pci card won't read on this motherboard. so, i have 2 disk drives and 2 hard drives that are all pata but i can't use them all at the same time. now, i tried having one drive and one hdd on a ribbon cable but when i do that it says theres an error starting windows setup. so, what i want to do is put a disk image or my installer cd and be able to run set up from that. anyone know how?

You should conisider buying SATA hard drive and just the ide controller for the cdroms. Are you trying to setup the install on the drives connected to the pci card or the onboard ide channel? If you are using the pci card then you would need to load the drivers for the card.

i've ordered a sata drive but i'd still like to fix this problem. i had the card in the first pci slot and had the hard drives connected to it. the disk drives were connected to the onboard ide slots. i ran the setup but it couldn't find a hard drive to install the setup on. i've never had to load the drivers on my older board for it to recognize the drives. but how would i load them before having an os on it?

You should have gotten a driver cd or floppy with the controller card. The drivers will need to be loaded at the beginning of the install for windows to actually see the drives. If you aren't sure how to do that, you may have to take it in to a shop or do you have a computer savvy friend that can help you do it?

Well, like I said my older board recognized with out loading the drivers. I'm pretty computer savvy myself but like everyone who is, you still don't know everything. I've never had to load drivers before installing an os. I got the card from a friend so I didn't get a driver disk with it. I have the drivers and I can make a disk. I just wanted to know what I should do about all that
