How would you compare a Phenom Quad 1.8GHz to a Phenom X3 2.4GHzto a 64 X2 2.7

Hey,

How would you compare the Phenom Quad 1.8 GHz to the 64 X2 2.7Ghz?

Thanks :)

EDIT: what about the Phenom X3 8750 2.4Ghz?

I have AM2/AM2+ mobo so if you can find me the best proc for under $90?...

Phenom X4 1.8GHz is better in multi-threaded application. In applications that don't use more than two cores, the Athlon64 X2 is probably faster due to its much higher clock speed.

I don't think it would be a big upgrade if you are going from Athlon64X2 to low clocked phenom (assuming that you already have Athlon64 X2 as you signature says)

I would recommend to get something like Phenom II X3 720 or Athlon II X4 620 which is be much better than Phenom 1.8GHz
Even Athlon II X3 425 which cost only $76 at newegg is better than 65nm Phenom 1.8GHz

Yes out of those two I would go for the 7750 X2 also, but as already mentioned if this is for the rig listed in your sig you will see no real difference in performance.

I second the vote for an Athlon II 425 X3, if the budget is low. If you have more money to spend yes get the 720 Phenom II.

Either way, make sure you have the most up to date Bios before installing the new chip.

Brand new mobo, so Im pretty sure that my bios should be up to date. Also, yes, im on a low budget. Guess my question has been anwsered, thats a lot!!

New question :o

Yes really.

Which tri core?

You have to understand, newer technology is faster clock for clock. An Athlon II 240 at 2.8ghz is faster than a 6000+ which is at 3.0ghz. Phenom II architecture is typically 20% faster than Phenom I tech clock for clock.

Lol, really? What about a tri-core 2.4ghz compared to a daul core 64 x2 2.7?

And yes, the specs in-sig are my pc.

Hey bro, i upgraded from a 5200+ to a 8750 BE, and i havent regretted it yet, was a great upgrade. I overclocked this thing just by changing the multi. to 2.7ghz no voltage change(1.24v)...

Ill give you some examples.

In crysis, i gained about 5fps, but not only the fps but it ran smoother, no jitters while playing, or FPS spikes i think they call em.

Video encoding, the main reason i upgraded, 30minute anime clip, with my 5200+ it took roughly 7 to 8 min. now it takes 4-5, great improvement.
(DVIX 1200kbps 480/272) Cowon s9 FTW :D

The extra core, its nice, some things i don't notice a difference, in fact most things i don't but when ever i game, or video transcode. Theres quite a difference...

I bought mine from newegg about 3 weeks ago, for about 70 bucks i think it was, it was the oem version, which was what i wanted, that amd stock fan is great:good:

Anyway i would recommend to the 8750 B.E. to you. You could overclock that thing to 3.0ghz with a 1.3v core.Great cpu.

But on the other side, i would wait, i mean, you have a brand new mobo, why not wait a month, and buy a phenom 2 thats a quad and can clock quite a bit higher, and more cache.

You could get a realy nice quad phenom 2 for 110$ bucks.

EDIT:
heres your mobo cpu support...

Just want to say, you are going to regret getting a P1, when your mobo supports the P2's

Heres some good, budget cpus.

or

That dual core would be a nice cheap budget, you could that that thing to 3.8ghz w/ aftermarket cooler.

or spend the extra 3 bucks for this

or a extra 9 bucks for this

OK, seriosuly, WHAT THE FLIP!?! My mobo is supposed to support up to AM2+ only and ECS site says am3! Explain this to me please?

It just says it's AM3 ready, meaning it also supports AM3 cpu's.

All AM3 cpu's are backwards compatable with AM2+ motherboards.

And thats correct, and AM2+ cpu would not fit in an AM3 only motherboard. The big way you can tell if a mother board is AM2 or AM3 is to look at what kind of ram it supports. If the board takes ddr2, it's an AM2 board, if it only takes DDR3 ram, it's and AM3 only board.
