I know this is going to sound bad, but how do I know if I have a CO or DO i7 920 CPU? I just bought one and haven't opened it yet. There is know where on the box that says CO or DO. Just product code, MM#, FPO/Batch says BO in the middle. Says pack date 11/11/09 but also say 08' on the chip itself thru the window. Made in Costa Rica. HELP... Thanks guys....

im pretty sure it is a DO, heres a guide

1st letter or digit = plant code

0 = San Jose, Costa Rica
1 = Cavite, Philippines
3 = .............., Costa Rica
6 = Chandler, Arizona
7 = .........., Philippines
8 = Leixlip, Ireland
9 = Penang, Malaysia
L = ............, Malaysia
Q = ..........., Malaysia
R = Manila, Philippines
Y = Leixlip, Ireland

2nd digit = Year of production

3rd & 4th digits = week

5th - 8th digits= lot number

10th - 13th digits = serialization code

On the side of the box look for the code

C0 stepping - SLBCH
D0 Stepping - SLBEJ

D0 stepping in general runs a little cooler - and overclocks a little better b/c of it. Every chip is within a range of acceptable - so the ability to O.C. of any one chip within that " step " will vary.

I got my C0 local at $199.00 6 months ago and love it. Would I rather have the D0 step - sure all things being equal - of course. But it wasn't something that was available for 200.00 at the time I was building - and when you buy online - you're at the luck of inventory which batch you get anyway. I wasn't going to spend an extra $80 bucks more for more of a chance go get a D0 sent out to me.

I'm guessing the marketplace has more D0 step processors available than c0 step right now. But that's just a quasi-educated guess.

Correct all the new chips are DO unless it's old stock or used. The DO is suppose to be a better O.C. by the majority rule.
