i was looking at the specs to run call of duty 6, an it said min requrements was 3.2GHz Intel Pentium IV, AMD Athlon 64 3200+ or equivalent, how does this mesure up to the intel i7 920 2.66ghz, as some new gaminmg rigs have this cpu? does this mean that the latest systems in shops wont play latest games

Stomp is putting it really lightly. A 3.2Ghz Pentium 4 is ~5+ years old and only has one core. The i7 920 has 4 cores!

Is there any benchmarks left with the i5/7 and Phenom II that still list the P4 and old Athlon 64. Might be pretty bad:P

what alot of people dont realise is that its nearly all about the architecture, not the clock speed. If comparing the same architecture, then look at clock speeds.

I would rather have a 2GHz Core i7 than a 4Ghz Pentium 4

look at the architecture, not the actual clock speed

Someone really should make a sticky on this (unless there is one...)

i get it, fairly new to all this still a easy mistake to make, i looked into the i7 very impressive, i see its quad core an 4 more virtual core.....an the turbo bost could up one core upto 3+ghz......if needed.

I'm currently playing right now Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and everything is set to maximum. No lag at all.

Intel's technology has come a long way since the Pentium 4. I do believe it is accurate to say that the Core i7 Processor has over six times the processing power of any Pentium 4.
