OK ... 4ghz @ 1.45vcore (will push higher)
NB + HTT @ 2200 (not sure)
ram maxed @ 1066mhz 2.1v
Gpu 4870 @ 790 - 1000 (slight overclock)

3dmark score --- 17,349

attempt #1 I am a far cry off from 20k dang!

attempt #2

3dmark 17,488

Cpu - 4.12ghz @ 1.5vcore
NB HTT same (not sure on best setting)
ram same (should be maxed)
Gpu - 790 -1030

attempt #3

cpu - 4.20Ghz @ 1.55vcore (try to bump again)
same
same
gpu- 855-1040 (may have some more)

3dmark 18425 (getting to the edge i think)

attempt #4

Cpu - - - 4.20ghz @ 1.55vcore (best I can do with air cooling)
HTT + NB - 2050mhz (stable with overclock)
Ram - 1100mhz
GPU - 875 - 1030

3dmark 18636

I had a Phenom 550 x2 @ 3.8 that scored 15000 with the same setup in 3dmark why does a quad only give another 3500 points??

Because a 550 at 3.8 is not a bottleneck in games. So the SM2 and SM3 scores won't go up much, it's the CPU score thats affected the most.

OP- You will not see 20k with a single 4870 and Phenom II cpu on air. You kinda already found that out though. Best I could get was 18k with my 550 unlocked to a quad at 3.9ghz (1.575 Vcore!) and about the same clocks on a sapphire 4870 1gb. My gtx260 scored 19.5k though haha, Nvidia FTW!
