5870 opinions

How do you guys like the 5870?

Currently I have a 1gb GTS250 and its just not enough for what I do. Its not great for Crysis or even steady gameplay on Call of Duty 4 maxed. I have read many reviews on the 5870 and many say it is just shy of the GTX295. I was thinking that if I got a 5870 I would just buy another in a few months and Crossfire them.

My specs are in my sig.

I'd probably buy the Asus one:

edit: in your post, I thought you said 5870 options, not opinions, but either way I'd still get the Asus one. :)

I would get an XFX or Asus 5870. For a single GPU card there is no other signle gpu match. hell, the 5870 is about equal to the GTX 295, which is a dual gpu card.

XFX or Sapphire imo.

ASUS is quickly losing my respect on everything but their monitors/motherboards.

Definitely get either XFX or Sapphire. I currently have the Sapphire version and i can only say this card is amazing. I play everything maxed out. I also play Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 on it, maxed out with no lag at all. If you get this card you wont regret it believe me. I'm planning in future to get another one and put them in Crossfire.

Thats what I like to hear. Thanks a lot for everyone's opinion.

I just saw some preliminary fermi benchies... and its about 40% faster then a gtx 295 for cheaper. I think that was the best one there was so far, but I cant remember. You might want to wait.

Well the price of fermi will be probably overkill... unless you have some good money that you want to spend you can definitely wait. :)

I didnt know that. What is the difference when not overclocked?

Those are at stock speed:

5850 Specs:

# Core Clock: 725MHz
# Stream Processors: 1440 Stream Processing Units
# Memory Clock: 1000MHz (4.0Gbps)

5870 Specs:

# Core Clock: 850MHz
# Stream Processors: 1600 Stream Processing Units
# Memory Clock: 1200MHz (4.8Gbps)

I'd still get the 5870 more stream processors and remember you can still overclock it :D

That is kinda what i was thinking. Then if I found a cheap 5850 I could crossfire it with a 5870 correct? Or wait and buy another 5870 when they drop in price a little.

Do you guys think that sounds like a plan?
