i have a caviar black WD 640gb bought 1 month ago. Today my computer crashed when i moved my mouse from screen saver. After i restarted it, my window's won't even start up. Then i finally tried rebooting it and it said cannot detect hard disk....i tried unplug, replug, change the cords, but nothing. I touched my hard disk and it is vibrating which means it is spinning but i don't know how to fix this? no matter what it cannot read my hard disk and loads and says reboot and select peper boot device.

Any solutions???

I don't know if this will help, but try the hard drive on a different computer, and see if it works, or try putting in the windows disk. Try putting in a new hard disk, maybe something happened to the cables.

i do not haveanother computer avaliable to test it, but now i msure its the harddrive. I hear a clocking soudn when it is trying to boot up. I recall this happens when your disk is damaged.

if its making a wierd noise then chances are its gone but what you could do is get a new hardrive for your pc format that instyall windows on it and use the your old hardrive to get all your old files of it (thats if it still works)

No matter what it cannot read my hard disk and loads and says reboot and select proper boot device.

Oh man I remember when this terrible message happened to me.Its terrible I know xD

Anyway the cause of this is that some of your Windows files are missing or damaged such as NTLDR,NTDETECT.COM and so on.It can also be that your BOOT SECTOR got corrupted.Anyway lets hope that the BOOT SECTOR is okay and try this first:

Put your Windows OS CD or DVD-ROM disk in your CD/DVD-ROM drive, boot from it and make the repair of your Windows OS.

If that did not help, then your BOOT SECTOR is corrupted. There is a way to fix it by using the RECOVERY CONSOLE from your Windows CD or DVD disk, but in most cases that doesn't work and the ONLY way to fix the BOOT SECTOR is to delete the partition, create the new one again, format it and then install Windows on it.However there IS a way to save your entire OS,all the data and all settings before doing this.To do that you will need an external USB HDD which is the same size as the HDD in your computer or bigger and Linux Ubuntu OS version 9.04.If you don't know how to do that, tell me and I will tell you how.

Cheers!
