Finding settings on vista

Hi,
I am loosing the will to live, trying to connect my sons Xbox to the net.

I have asked for assistance with connecting it recently but it would be simpler to start a new thread to ask for some specific info.

I have Visa on my lap top and I need to find some settings for my computer so that I can manually enter the info onto the Xbox.

I need the following, (I hope it makes more sense to you!)

IP SETTINGS
IP ADDRESS
SUBNET MASK
GATEWAY

DNS SETTING
PRIMARY DNS SERVER
SECONDARY DNS SERVER

Cheers in advance,

Stu

Hi

He has an Xbox 360. I don’t know what other types there are, games are not my thing.:P

Thanks for the tutorial link. Easy when you know how.;)

Now I have an IP address for the computer BUT that’s NOT what I need to enter onto the Xbox?

If I understand correctly, there is an IP address for my laptop AND my wireless router has its own IP address?

Which IP address do I need to put in for the Xbox?

You want to go into your router settings via telnet over web browser. For example, you would open up your web browser and in the address bar input 192.168.0.1 or whatever IP your router is set to. Log into the router and look at the current status of connections. It will list everything connected, go ahead and jack the xbox in. It will also note the MAC address of the NIC of the Xbox. Copy that info down (or just right click after highlight and click copy) then create a DMZ with that MAC and a static IP to whatever you want, say 192.168.0.130 for example. You'll need to be in the same subnet of the IP range of your router.

If you google this info you should find tutorials with pics.

I am afraid that I don't understand this. Can you explain it a little more simply?
