hey guys whats a good processor for gaming purposes that is a quadcore, intel, and lga 775? i want to be able to play BFBC 2 when it comes out at around 80 fps constant :/ right now i have a 9800GTX+ OC and it will do the job, the game is much more CPU intensive i think, if u guys think my gpu wont handle it plz tell me >.< thanks :D

oh and price range :/ meh maybe 300? i got a good CPU cooler so no probs there :D or should i just over lcock my e8500 from 3.16 to 3.5? i think the extra cores is what the frostbite engine needs tho :(

If your board supports get a Q9550 or Q9400 :good:

These cpu's are all over ebay, loads of deals. you could even pick up a cheap Q9300 and OC to the high heavens.

^ I wouldn't say it would be out-dated for maybe 1/2-1 year when people really start to buy i7's and all the new cpu's but they are still pretty good. If you want to get i7 or i5, make sure its quad-core and that the motherboard supports both, just in case you want to upgrade in the future.

ok that sounds more secure, im going to buy a new GFX soon to so i might aswell go new mobo and i7 quad core :D thanks guys! ill have some more questions on switching hardware later.

Q9400 would be plenty-

But if got the money the Q9550 really rocks the house gaming wise-

You should be able to OC your E8500 well past 4ghz, and that should be enough far any game right now. 4ghz with 1.35 or less Vcore is typical for an E8500. Most will clock 4.5ghz on air no problem.

As long as you stay atleast 50 FPS or so you will not notice any lag at all. You cannot tell the difference between 50 and 80 FPS.

WOW really??? are you sure? can someone confirm this, im interested now lol my idle temp at 3.16 is 18 so im rdy to overclock :D

ok does anyone know a good guide to overclocking this will be my first time. So i want a good guide.

Do you know if your board has an ''unlinked'' option for the FSB/ram ratio? See when you overclock the FSB it overclocks the ram, but some boards you can unlink it and just set the ram speed to what you want without the FSB changing it.

And it's the best overclocking feature i've seen so far. :D Only problem is you need an exact FSB number otherwise the RAM speed will be slightly higher or lower. (example, FSB for my cpu is 1450, when ram is set to 800mhz it only goes to 775mhz. the closest to 800mhz i can get is 806mhz. setting FSB to 1400 or 1500 keeps it exactly at 800mhz)

Yes it won't be exact sometimes. Unlinked just means the board have several more options for ratio's so the mobo automatically picks the best one to stay closest to your setting, but it still does go off the FSB.

BTW, an unlocked multiplier on the CPU is the best overclocking feature :good:

Since the price for E8500 and Asus striker 2 extreme are still high. I would say sell them (I assume you can get at least $200) and get i7 860 with P55 Motherboard ($290 + $160).
Spending $300 on LGA775 is not worth. If you really want to C2Q, i would say getting Q9550
