Why is Memory Automatically Setting Speed?

i have an amd athlon 64 x2 5200+ brisbane and g. skill 4 gb ram (2x2gb) 1066. in the bios, it has options for ddr 400, 533, and 800. i am assuming you multiply that by 2 to get the speed (800, 1066, and 1600). is that correct? anyways, my computer is automatically setting the cpu:ram ratio even when i set the ram to 800 or 533. why is it doing this? also, it this the correct math? cpu hypertransport is 5 times the front side bus. the bus and ram should be close to 1:1. so why is my ram setting the speed automatically? nay help is greatly appreciated since this is driving me nuts.

What motherboard do you have? you may have 1066 ram, but your motherboard may only support up to 800.

The Athlon X2 5200 only supports up to DDR2 800. If it isnt running at 400, DDR2 800 really runs at 400mhz. you probably need to manually set the Speed/Timing and voltage to what ever the default is for the memory.

are you sure it only supports up to that? when i overclock my bus speed, the ram speed goes up. i have gotten it farther than 1066 before but at that point the cpu wasn't stable so i had to turn down the bus speed.
