Hello everyone.

I have encountered a issue on my desktop. I upgraded the Motherboard to a new gigabyte ga-g31m-es2l 775 socket rev 2.0, I swapped my cpu over to this board. And i installed 4 gig of ram. I made sure my cpu was compatible with the motherboard ect. Im also using the same Sata HD that i was using before.

The issue im having is now when i turn the system on. It boots and gets to the choose boot , safe mode, last good config, stnd boot, i select last good or stnd config and it just reboots. Im not sure what to do from here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

Did you formatted your computer since you upgrade your motherboard?
Because you need to do that..
Hope that helps

I i didn't format it. I was hoping that since it is the same cpu and had drive it would boot. So much for that idea..... Would a recovery cd work? I bought the pc as is, and it didn't come with the XP cd's

recovery cd's are vague, it all depends on how the recovery cd "recovers" your computer... if its an image like ghost.. then no you will probably have similar problems. the best way would be to reinstall the whole thing....

Well, you only got two choices:
-Do a windows repair.
-Formatt the Windows

Dont think that the recovery cd will work because the problem here
is that each motherboard got is own drivers (and these drivers load with windows)and that recovery cd got exactly the same drivers for the old motherboard.
(and thats why is giving you reboots.)
Hope that helps

The motherboard came with a driver install cd. But i can't get it to do anything with the cd. How do i get the drivers onto the computer if the windows reinstall wont put the right drivers onto the pc?

you will need the XP disc and reinstall the computer. a repair might work. you can use your mobo driver disc until after you do this. you upgrade your ram, cpu, graphics cards...etc... but not a mobo not without starting over... or replacing the mobo with the same one, or maybe even one that is REALLY similar.

Windows XP doesn't really like hardware changes - after it just acts weird and stupid. Format your PC. It is always recommended to format your computer after you install new hardware. Just like mobo, CPU or GPU to take the most out of the system.

I tell you what:
Put or old mobo again, boot from it
go to device manager,
Unistall all the drivers from the mobo
Shutdown the computer and replace with the new
mobo and start the computer.
With a little lucky you should be able to bootup
to windows and install the new drivers for the new mobo.
Hope that helps
