Building a MW2 PC for dad.

My dads trying to play MW2 on his 8 year old AGP graphics powered dell machine, I think it's time to get him an upgrade... He already has nice hard drives, so that's the only thing I wont be needing.. I've put together a base list of the components I think would be good, but it's been forever since I've built one so honestly I'm not too sure whats considered good anymore, please look over the build any advice/suggestions are much appreciated!!

Keep in mind i'm trying to not go over $600 while still getting the best bang for my buck as far as a gaming machine goes... At least 4 GB ram and 512mb GFX w/ a dual core processor.. Thanks in advance for any help.

GFX - GeForce 9800 GTX * http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130339

CPU - Core 2 Duo E7400 * http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115206

RAM - GSkill Ripjaw 4GB * http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231277

That looks good, but if you like to OC, maybe look for a board with a p45 chipset, they OC so well.

Maybe this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138148R&cm_re=p45-_-13-138-148R-_-Product for the same price, but i would spend the tiny bit more and get this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128372&cm_re=p45-_-13-128-372-_-Product

Not really a fan of overclocking, but I will look into those motherboards maybe it's something he would like, thanks for the input!

$600 just to play mw2? i would rather get a 360/ps3 lol

well, im sure it will be his main pc as well.

i hate how console fanboys(not you) say "consoles are so much better cause they are cheaper". yea well, they most likely have a computer anyways, and they probably paid more for it from a store than we did to build it.

Should do the job, the 8800gtx will max mw2 so the 9800 shouldn't have problems.

9800GTX is about $20 more expensive than HD4850 and it is also much slower, ATi cards are more affordable these days and are much faster.

@psykedOut - forget your mobo, get cheaper case, different processor.
You shoudn't really buy case with PSU because one of them (in this case PSU) might be crap. Forget nvidias - 9800GTX is much slower than HD4850 and more expensive and you are not really going to need 4GB of RAM. For 32-bit system and for games like MW2 2GB will be definately enough

mobo - ASUS P5Q Deluxe - $139.99

This bothers me as well. I recently chose to build my own system over buying a xbox 360 or ps3. Even if my pc is 600-700$ more expensive then the xbox/ps3, i've been in need of a new computer, so might as well build a gaming rig rather then get a pc and a xbox. Plus, i don't have to pay for things like xbox live, and controllers, which can really add up. I told some of my console fan boy friends this and they didn't really understand it.

Also, theres a much better collection of pc games available for play then there are console games.

Luckily I have enough money to buy a xbox 360, and a 1800 dollar gaming computer :). Kind of sad that when I play some games though instead of using mouse and keyboard I'll use my Xbox 360 controller xD

Thanks for your fanboy input but I was just saying how amazing the 8800 was, only took ati what 3 series to catch up? Not a fanboy reply but a serious question i know it took them forever. And yes ati is better then Nvidia at the moment.

Hopefully your dad has SATA compatible HDs. Assuming that he's got an 8 year old AGP video card would led me to believe that he also has IDE hard drives(older computer). Then again, some new mobos can run IDE hardware... The 9800 will be fine for MW2.
