Samsung F3 Drives In RAID 0 are pretty good.

Got two of these for pretty cheap recently, and stuck them in RAID 0, with a 128k stripe, on my ASUS Maximus Formula X38, with the Intel ICH9R RAID controller.

Benchmarks

That's with a 322GB Short Stroke.

750GB Short Stroke.

No Short Stroke.

As you can see, performance and access times diminish the larger the RAID array is, so if you ask me, you should short stroke a RAID array, providing it's not being used for storage.

(Who uses RAID 0 for storage anyway...?)

Agree

Samsung f3's are great drives even, when not in raid

I have a 500gb as my boot drive and a 750gb f1 which, the F3 blows out of the water

Could someone explain "Short Stroke"?

What happens when you just run the test, without checking the "Short Stroke" box?

W/o short stroke it runs the test through the whole disk. With short disk you can select how many gb to test.

Edit:

A Short Stroke is basically a limitation of how much storage space on the hard drive you'll use.

Access times are lower with a bigger Short Stroke, because accessing the outside of the platters is faster.
