spec

Thanks for postinng. not sure what the mb is as the computer belongs to a freind, but,i will see him tomorrow night so i could find out if it will help. AMD 5200+ duel , 2 gig ram 250 gig hdd ob graphics and the program is a simple photo managing one shiped with an olympus camera
Thanks

mobo is not necessary... i would image that program would run fine, what os are you using? does anything else run funny on the computer? perhaps a malware scan wouldnt hurt.

os

Hi, thanks for you reply. The os is xp home, and as in most computers there are some programs running in the background, as you said i will give it a scan. But it runs other programs ok, it just seems to be the olympus software, i also think there could be a mailware or somthing at the root of the problem. Cheers for your help

no problem, let us know if that helped. also see if there is an updated version of the software on their website

Hi, just to let you know that i done a malware scan and a virus scan, both came up clean. pc seems to run slow, so im not sure what to try next. I had a look but they have an up to date copy of the olympus software installed. I got the malware scanner from the microsoft website so i know it's a good one. Although i could try adding a bit more ram, could help.
There are a few programs running in the background, but i never know which to turn off and which to leave.
Thanks

NOOOOOOOO!!!This is completely wrong looool!Do NOT add more RAM!!!I repeat do NOT add more RAM!!!Dude you have 2 GB of RAM and all you do is running the simple program for pictures.Trust me adding more RAM will not help...What I want you to do is the following:

-completely uninstall that program
-repair your friend's OS using its CD or DVD disk

NOTE: The reason why I want you to do this is because some drivers in the Windows OS might got corrupted...

-after the repair process is done,do a disk check and be sure to turn on both options ---> "Automatically fix file system errors" and "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors"
-After that process is done, defragment your HDD
-Now restart the computer
-And now install that software again

Cheers!

:) Hi m8, i will do that, i did say to my freind that the problem must lay with that program because every thing else seems ok, thanks for your time and help.
i will have a look at it in a day or so and i will post back with the results.

I had to smile at how you started your post, very good that made the point get accross. Thanks m8 and take it easy

If everything else on the computer runs fine, it could be that the software is bad or poorly made. Post the name of the program and I could check and see if anyone else has had similar problems. Also, even though you already checked to make sure you had the most up to date version of it, you should uninstall it and reinstall it incase the problem is a result of a botched install.

Also, you might just want to look into using a different program to manage your photos. I assume all that needs to be done is organizing, cropping, red-eye fix, etc. Picasa should be able to do everything that any other photo managing software does, so maybe you should look into that.

Well, I found several other instances of people posting on forums or help sites complaining that the program is slow, so I'm going to go ahead and guess that it's just poorly made software. It's not really surprising, I find most software that comes bundled with hardware to be quite poor, even those from name brands. You should probably look into using an alternate program.

Thanks for your help, i never even thought of looking around to find out if there where other cases. Nice call and thanks. i shall take it off there computer.
Cheers :)
