Retail, because you can move it to a new motherboard. It allows you to upgrade to a newer platform when your current one gets old. OEM is locked to the exact motherboard model that it's first installed on.

oh ok. just wondering, can you buy retail or is it an upgrade?

You can buy retail, yeah. Retail is what you'd find at walmart or something, while some variant of OEM is generally what major brands like Dell or HP use. You can also get OEM copies from some stores for quite a bit cheaper, but with the obvious limitations.

The reason I was asking is that if it was retail, it would be easier to upgrade that when the time comes to swap the mobo for a newer platform. If not you'll need to buy a new OS.

However, many people just get a whole new computer at that point and sell the old one, so it may be a non-issue

yeah ok. but id probably rather build my own rig, and im not the biggest fan of used electronics, so ill see.

Looks like a great rig to me, also, I had my current PC built for me, and I have a windows 7 disk, I'm guessing that retail? So I could move that to as many pc's as I choose correct? I see no reason why the guy who built my system would give me a OEM copy.

I just say, do not expect much of the graphics.

I myself got a computer from my boss, really awesome machine, but my graphics, ati 4670, is bottlenecking it.

Just an fyi
