when i turn on my pc, it makes a strange noise until it loads the desktop.
i don't know why. once the desktop is loaded, the noise starts to reduce until i don't hear it anymore.

what could be the problem? is it anything serious?

i don't know what other details to give...ask me if you need to know more.

I would suspect the fan. try tapping the back or tookpick in the center. see if it drifts in and out and noise goes away.

i don't think it's the fan because right now it's not making any bit of noise.
the noise is like a motor only when i start windows and then it goes off.

i would still suspect the fan. maybe a fan on the video card if it exist. When was the last time ya blew out the computer. Have a can of compressed air?
goto radioshack or an office supply store. have to start some where.

With the computer off and the side cover off then restart the computer. you should be able to tell where the noise is coming from. I would not suspect the hd.
