external hard drive

for some reason my external hard drive keep exiting it out after a few mins like it got turn off but it still running anyone know what the problem is?

Is it hooked up to a usb hub or directly to the computer?

my power management still at default so i dont think is the problem
where can i find the settings from automatically turning off USB devices after 5 minutes of inactivity cause i dont see it anywhere i running windows 7

and sometime when it just turn on it wont show up i have to turn it off n on a few time to show up

I don't think this particular setting is on the power management console. Try opening device manager and looking at the Universal Serial Bus controllers section. Check the powe rmanagement tabs on the USB Root Hub items and see if they are set to let windows turn them off to save power.

i turn off the power management n it still going off well idk if is off but it not showing on my computer window but on the usb in device manager says it still there.
the hdd turn on like normally do but sometime when i try to open a folder it just froze n not responding.
