Computer locking up.

I have a Gateway dx4200-09 with win7 home premium 64bit, HIS 4670, and Antec 520w psu. I'm experiencing crashes when I play WoW, surfing through the net, or using programs like utorrent. My computer will just Lock it self up and the only way I can get out of it is by holding down the power button and I know that could cause problems if I do it to often.

So far I have done:
Update all my drivers.
Scan my computer for viruses.
Used Ccleaner and Easy clean to get rid of the junk files and clean my registry.
Defrag

Is there anything else I can do correct this problem? (The last thing I want to do is wipe my hard drive.)

Try to look for the problem in the event viewer (the errors code) and google them.
 
All my drivers are up to date.

Yes I have my GPU overclocked but I doubt it is causing these locks up because when I didn't have my 4670 it was still locking up on my intergrade graphics and my nvida quadro fx 540

I'll google the error codes and see.

Is your cooler working properly.

I am not saying that this is your problem but my friend's PC keeps crashing because of the CPU overheating with a broken cooler.

My CPU stays at 35c-36c and my gpu stays at a 38c-46c at idle. When I play games my cpu hits 50c at max(44c-46c usually) and my gpu hits 60c at max(47c-55c usually) so I don't think my system is overheating.

Well today I wiped my hard drive and reinstalled win7. Then when I was redownloading wow and setuping up my stuff in control panel my computer locked up. Could this be a hard drive issue?(Also while I was installing windows 7 my hard drive started to sound like a rattle snake for about a good 30 seconds)

I bought a new hard drive and it still makes noise when I open up programs and go through my program files. Is this ticking noise normal for new hard drives?

You dont have a CD or DVD in your CD/DVD drive to make that noise do you?:o
About the lock ups in your PC..
Have downloaded all the drivers to your PC or windows installed some for you?
If he did,then download the ones from manufactures because propabably is what is doing that lockup...
If it doesnt helps..check in the event viewer and check for errors ..i had a identical probloem a few weeks ago and it was the optical drive
that was giving error (something wrong with the controller) and it was giving lockups to the computer..

The platform firmware has corrupted memory across the previous system power transition. Please check for updated firmware for your system.

InitializePrintProvider failed for provider inetpp.dll. This can occur because of system instability or a lack of system resources.

The first error ""The platform firmware has corrupted memory across the previous system power transition. Please check for updated firmware for your system." belongs to your BIOS (needs to be updated)

The second error belongs to your print device spooler (did had any problems with your printing before?)

The third error belongs to Audit events reports file (is corrupted) so as the backup.

Try to test your RAM with Memtest X86.
Probably you have some dead ram in there..

Oh.. great I don't think I'll be able to find the update for my bios.

I haven't hooked up my printer to my computer yet.

I just ran memtest this morning and I did 3 passes which took 4 hours and no errors popped up.

Tell more about your PC..is a new one or allready have a few months/years and problems started now?
Do you remember when did he started doing those lockups?
About your CD/DVD drive, even if you dont use it, it doesnt mean that she couldnt have a problem in her..
If you have another OSs you could try him and see if the lockups continue,
if they do then something is wrong with your hardware and not with your software.
About you BIOS, you should try to update her because it can be something
with your BIOS (an internal problem with the BIOS itself) or isnt fully compatible with that window that you are using at the moment..(X64).
About the noise that you are hearing from your PC..are you sure it cames from the HDD? If yes then you can have 1 or 2 of the 2 following comon problems:
1-Your PSU isnt giving enough power to the HDD (the PSU is dying)
2-The power conector to your HDD is damage (try to conect with other available)
Hope that any of this help with your problems in your RIG.

I have a Gateway DX4200-09 Refurbished
PSU- Antec 520w
GPU- HIS 4670
CPU- AMD 9150e 1.8GHz
RAM- 2x Nanya Technology 2GB PC2-6400
Motherboad- Foxconn RS780

I been having the PC for about 1 month now and when I had vista 64bit it was locking up on WoW and sometimes at random. I signed up for the free win7 home 64bit upgrade disc from gateway hoping the problem would go away. I wiped my hard drive and did a fresh install of win7 and yet the problems appeared. My DVD/CD drive works no problems with it. It only gets loud when I put Dvd/Cds in it other than that it works.

About updating the BIOS. I cannot find the latest updates for it. I been looking all around google and so far I been seeing that Foxconn doesn't support it anymore. So now it's Gateway's job to release updates for it but they haven't and I don't think they will.

Off topic: Since I have the Gateway's window 7 upgrade disc. Will I still be able to use it if I get a new motherboard?

I have seen the hyperlinks that you posted but i cant really find were is saying that your CPU is supported..
Is stating that supports AMD Phenom™ (95 W) but not AM2+ 65W Quad-Core Processor as you have mounted there at the moment..
If you have the chance to get your hands in a AMD Phenom™ (95 W) and give it a try i am
almost sure then some or all the problems go away..hopefuly..
Or you can drop an email at the Gateway Support guys and ask them if your CPU is fully supported with your BIOS version..
Hope that helps with your problem

I don't see how a 65w cpu in a 95w motherboard would cause problems.

Emailing Gateway is pointless. It takes them 10 business+ days from them to reply. I emailed them a few times. Also their tech support sucks.

Of course it can couse problems in a computer..
Its a diferent CPUID that you got there and your BIOS doesnt know how
to command 100% your CPU and that can give lookups like you are experiencing at the moment,thats how it works with electronics..
About the support that they can give, i know is a drag to keep you waiting
but you got that or you need to find a way to put your hands in a CPU that
is in their CPU support list..
 
Well sucky thing is I can't find a BIOS update for my motherboard.. So I guess I'm screwed huh? I don't have enough money to buy a decent motherboard that would support my CPU.
 
That BIOS version is 7B3P081G and it's for vista. I'm at version 7B3P091G running win 7. So I think I'm up to date.. I think...
