Case - Do you really need tower? I guess Antec 900 would usually be enough.
Cooler Master 690 is Free shipping at the moment, worth consider.

HDD - 160GB HDD don't have free shipping. Get a 16MB Cache 320GB

Video Card - Get GTS 250 instead. They are the same card as 9800GTX, but at lower price.

PSU - Rosewill is not at top quality, not recommend
May be getting something like Antec TP-750
If you running single Video card, 550W would cover everything. No need for 750W

If you not plan to run Crossfire or SLi, i would recommend i7 860 + P55 Platform, which save a bit of money.
Or even AMD Phenom IIx4 955 would probably enough for photo edit

i'll be overclocking to around 3.8-4.0ish, will 550 still keep me in the safe zone? I plan on converting to a hackintosh down the line so i'm stuck with this mobo and intel. i will look into the other factors though, my original budget was 1200...

and nah i dont really need the space of the 1200, just the airflow.. i plan to push this cpu for a few years...

Like said, change the power supply to a Corsair/Silverstone/PC Power&Cooling/Antec. And get a GTS 250 instead of a 9800GTX.

AnandTech test GTS 250 Full load at around 301W with i7 920 @ 3.33GHz

So, you just need a 450W to run it. With your OC at 3.8 - 4GHz, 550W would definately be enough.

BTW, I think the airflow with Antec 900 and Antec 1200 is the same

I can pick up the i7 for 200 at microcenter down the street, and the v8 for 55, and save 2 bucks on arctic silver (ha). SO I'm down to 1224$

as far as the gts, they're about 20 bucks cheaper but I found this one for the same price and double the memory so I think i'll be going with it

let me know what you guys think so far

(I'm still not sure which PSU I should be going with)

does anyone have any experience with newegg open box deals? you can get a P6T for $174, with 3 year warranty apparently? this almost makes me want to forget the EX58 and OSX and just stick to win7...

edit: and thanks StrangeHold, switched to one of those.

The P6T id s good board, go ahead and get the open box deal. it should come with all the accessories, same as retail.

My understanding is the open box " DO NOT " come with the accessories - same as retail. The only thing guaranteed is the Board itself.

On Open Box, some do some dont come with the acc, its just what ever is in it, no guarantee if it does or not. The board was returned for one reason or another.

looks good, about the air flow i'm currently on the cool master scout case and my idle temp is 39~47 and about tops 55*c after a hour or 2 of cod mw2 online
edit: thats with overclocked to 3.3ghz
thats with the default case fans and the tru black 120 cpu cooler

well it has a return refund, so if it doesn't boot you can ship it back. and i believe with the asus mobos they come with a 3 year warranty
