is the gtx 260 worth the $60 upgrade over the gts 250?

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200 - 2.2gGhz
Motherboard: ASUS M2N32-SLI
Memory: 2gb total; 2 x 1GB Corsair DDR2 XMS2 6400/800mhz

Thing is.. i'm running in only PCI x16 speed not 2 but I don't want to upgrade my video card for a while.. i want this one to last a long time. i figure when i update again.. it'll be mobo/ram/processor and keep this card

anyway i bought the evga gts 250 for $150 with $15 rebate and been pleasantly happy with it's performance considering my rig (upgraded from a 6800 gt) but i was disappointed to learn that everyone is saying it's basically an upgraded 9800 gtx which is not cool imo

so i was thinking of dishing out $200 - $215 for the gtx 260.. is it worth it though? with the rig i'm currently using would i even notice a difference? i'm thinking that my processor is what's going to hold me back from seeing a difference

really i just want to battlefield bad company 2 smoothly with the lowest settings.. that's my goal at the moment.. but i want to use this card for a while (my 6800 lasted me a loong time)

what do u guys think?

My current system has a GTX260, and I've been really satisfied with it. Plays any game, really smooth. However, that being said, I have physx calculation being offloaded to my 9800GT, and I have a more powerfull CPU than you.

But if you want your GPU to last a while, I'd go for it, it's a solid GPU.

not worth it, doesnt make much of a difference.

Upgrade your whole system tho, the 4400+ is pretty old, 3+years, so upgrade that, you gpu is good, i have it, maxs out every game. even cysis, no AA of course.

Hell yea! GTX 260's in SLi is amazing. Running Company of Heroes on Ultra settings with around 60+ fps.

TF2 caps out at 300 fps when I play it. :P

thx for the replies guys

hm you guys are intriguing me about the 4890.. jus kinda scared to venture out into the ATI world haha cuz i've always been a nvidia/evga guy

i do like the price alot better though.. considering my motherboard though i heard certain boards lock out ati models or something.. i hope mine isn't locked out jus incase i do go that route.. i'll keep u posted

is the 4890 really that much better though? or is it just a personal preference thing?

The GTX 260 would be a nice card - but if you're happy with the GTX 250 - why not keep it for a year - and wait for the price of 5850 to come down in a year or so. For the same 200 bucks - ya can pick up a DX 11 card that kill sthe GTX 260 and can support 3 monitors with one card.

that's what I would do ( actually that's what I plan to do with my 9800 GTX+ ) but I'm not a hardcore gamer - so I may wait a little longer still to upgrade it. :D

I would not bother with the video card. Your next upgrade should be a DX11 card, and if it's not going to be for a year thats perfect because there should be a lot of DX11 games and graphics cards to choose from then.

The 4890 is nice, but not necessary. The entire rest of his setup is WAY more of a bottle neck than the gts250.
