I already got a monitor, Keyboard, Mouse, Hard Drive and windows 7. I would be using it mostly for gaming and doing school work (MS word, Excel).

If a $600 budget can give me significant performace and longevity i would go a budget of $600. So a $500 - $600 sounds perfect for me.

I noticed there are only 2 gigs of RAM being used to run a 64 bit OS on that one phenom, you really need to have 4 gigs.

If you want Quad core then go with the 955 or 945. The 965 is just an over clocked 955 and puts out more heat. It's not worth the extra money or heat for 200Mhz faster CPU. That case isn't all that great although it will work I recommend you get something a little better build quality. The motherboard isn't the greatest but it will be alright. 2GB of RAM is the minimum I would recommend for a gaming machine. If you do go with 2GB you should upgrade to 4GB as soon as you get the money. Also try looking at the DIY kits newegg offers they can often save you some money.

Well, no offense, but that's a serious problem.

Why is that?

Because his upgrade path won't be too simple with a 32 bit OS hindering RAM upgrades. If he wants to tack on more RAM later on he'll need to back up his files and get a 64 bit OS.Too much hassle in my opinion, he might as well go with 64 bit from the beginning.

And you're right, it's just my opinion XD

Well I doubt he will need more then 4GB for a while. By the time I gets ready to go to 8GB or whatever he will probably be building a new computer or there will be a new OS out and he will switch anyways. It's not that much hassle if you know what your doing. Besides if he really wanted/needed 64bit then he could just upgrade version and he wont loss anything.

Er, I thought he was going with the 542 dollar build of 2GB RAM, not 4 GB.

In case he does use 4GB then he should definitely get the 64 bit as 32 bit OS can't use all that RAM fully.

True but 3.25GB is still enough for gaming and mostly anything else.
