firstly i must admit to be toying with the idea of selling my i7 rig with the phase cooling etc etc to fund my new build!

this is my new build so far (ideas)--\/

what you guys think?
 
Looks good to me. But I am not sure about XFX PSU. I would rather go for famous PSU brand, like seasonic, antec, etc.

BTW, it looks a bit expensive...
 
yeh it is expensive, if i can sorce the parts from elswhere i will-i have an eye for a bargain......

the xfx psu is very high quality unit and the antec psu's are not in the same league
 
nah just a change, its cheaper motherboard and memeory for the lg1156 platform

i have used 4 corsair psu's and i am by no way a fanboy of anything, i see something thats getting good reviews and i buy it.

the xfx psu is baised on the seasonic psu and its a solid performer, i like the 70amps on the 12volt rail too...

as for the gpu thing i have no idea what you are trying to say, i have had 4 4890 gpu's from xfx and i have 2 different looking batches-one had the fan at the back and the others had the fan in the middle!

the gpu that had the fan in the middle ran cooler and was quieter...

every company that makes the same model gpu has there own ideas on cooling etc thats to attract people to buying there product

maybe they found a way to make there gpu slightely shorter by moving the fan into the middle so they can sell there gpu to people who might just want a shorter card
 
What I am saying is the whole card is smaller, looks like a 5850 turned into a 5870, power plugs on the end, no board cover etc. If that does not matter to you then you are set.

what would matter to me was if it was true in what you are trying to say, but you or someone else wopuld have to look deaper into it to get proof-going off looks alone means jack

they could be using the same board with all the componants to make it a 5870 which is fine by me, what wouldnt be fine would be if it was a 5850 clocked up to 5870 specs which is easy to do.

but once again its proof that is needed-i am looking into either a 5870 or a 5850 with crossfire in future!

i already have that drive and it takes very warm poo's on conventional hard drives

Looks good funky,I dont realy see the point to be honest since you already have a 920,good mobo and decent ram and nothing these days will realy take advantage of all that power,But...

Id try and get a 2gb version of that 5870.....im thinking that with DX11 when more games take advantage that on huge maps it will help out alot...also dont know if you play it but GTA IV still cannot be maxed properly on 1gb of graphics ram! :cool:.....makes me with id have got the 2gb version of 4890 :o

excellent choise of power supply,XFX make great power supplies!

You planning on watercooling that graphics card this time?
 
im planning on having so much water cooling that i will have to build a resivour in my back garden instead of a little one in my case ;)

things are up in the air at the moment, im looking at either that full build (1st post) or a 5850gpu and some 1600mhz ram for the one i have now
 
Id save yourself the hastle of selling what you have now and just get a 5850 and some new faster ram (1800Mhz) if you realy want to change your ram.

£185 for 6gb here....although not sure if its realy that good.

You could wait until the new nvidia 480 series comes out and see what that does to ATIs 5000 series prices,OR see how much the 480 series nvidias are going for.
