First Build!!! Help appreciated

Hey everyone, so I am looking to build my first computer. The main use will be gaming, and I want to be able to run crysis no lag. My budget is about 800-900, not including the OS or monitor.

I've been reading a lot of posts, and I have a general idea, but I'm not completely sure on a lot of things...

I think I would want my processor to be a amd II 965 with an AM3+ motherboard. I was leaning towards a graphics card like the 5770, maybe something a little better. I was planning on 4g of ram, but I dont know about the timings and whether I should get DDR3 or DDR 2. I also don't know much about the hard drive or power supply or optical drives and I know absolutely nothing about compatibility.

And in the future... would it be worth using crossfire with the 5770s? or would it be better to get a new card, say in like a couple years. And if i do want to upgrade ram later do I need the same type? (like DDR 3 1600 as opposed to DDR3 1066?)

And when i do build, I see people with that long sleeve that makes all the cables neat and tidy, does that come with the parts I will order?

You're asking for a whole lot for a very small price tag. You can build a pretty nice computer for $900, but probably not with a Penom 2 965, 4 gigs of DDR3, and crossfire 5770s.

You can check out the build I just made for $1,001. It'll max out Crysis at probably 40-50fps (AA and all). For another $200-300 or so you can go crossfire and run it at a steady 60fps.

Again, Crysis is a monster that doesn't run well on anything but the best PCs, and those can't really be built for $800-900... Unless you don't care about maxing out Crysis and you just want to run it :)
 
CPU - Get 955 instead to save some money. 965 not worth extra $45 from 955

For this build, I allow 955 with 790FX, 750W PSU, which allow for future crossfire.
For better performance, i would suggest go for core i5 750. The downside is if you crossfire, the second card not running at full speed.

Sorry for not being more specific, I don't want to crossfire right now, I was thinking about the future. I'm sure the 5770 will get the job done now, was just thinking about future upgrades.

Also, what do you mean by the 2nd card would not run at full speed?

And that build looks almost perfect, although I think I have room in the budget to get a slightly better HD with more memory. Thanks a lot!

If you go for i5 750 with P55 (similar overall price as 955 + 790FX), the first card will run at x16 speed, the 2 nd crossfire card run at x8. However, i5 750 is faster than any of phenom II x4.
 
To the OP, where are you located?

Forget crossfire, you want a 5850 or 5870 if you can. They are top end cards and the 5850 is a big step up from the 5770. 5770 is not bad and a good card for many people. CF is a pain in the rear and all dual cards have issues on both sides.

Your budget is tight though. The i5-750 is a very fast CPU and I also recomend it also. If you have a Microcenter near buy you can get a good price on it and MOBO for less than the AMD MOBO prices shown.

and thank u guys for the help.... so I kind of combined your suggestions and came up with this.... a little over budget, but if it lasts, then that's fine. total including shipping is 1k on the dot, with a 50 MIR

i chose the antec case because i read a lot of reviews and iv only heard good things....since there is a MIR it is only $15 more expensive than the rosewill + other PSU.

So, what do you think guys? Am i missing anything, and will this all work together? thanks again!

Looks good, if you have a microcenter near buy check their prices also.

Looks like a nice build.
