Dual Monitor Questions

Both monitors would be on one video card. I glimpsed over the sticky at the top but still have a couple questions.

1. My second monitor is smaller, than my current one. Highest resolution it supports is 1440x900, would I be limited to that resolution on both monitors or can I use the higher resolution on the 1440x900 monitor? Can I set them individually?

2. Second monitor basically just extends the desktop right?

Cool.

I've got a big and small monitor. Both set to their native settings. they both work great - but there are some sizing / location issues when I move a web page from one monitor to the other

Mine just gets smaller when it moves to the 2nd monitor.

Only thing I need to get used to is placement. The only place I could stick the 2nd monitor was on top my minifridge next to my desk, so its about a foot higher than my regular monitor. Whenever I move my mouse to the right too far on accident I see it in the corner of my eye on the left and my brain goes lolwut?

Anyone know if you can get a second task bar on teh second monitor?

Mine are the same way. My viewsonic has a huge base that has the monitor up quite high, while my ASUS is quite a bit shorter. Doesn't bug me anymore though. You get used to it after a while.

As far as a second taskbar, I found this one. It has a freeware and a shareware (paid) so you can look and decide which one you want.

It's not the height that bothers me, its the cursor going off my screen to the right and showing up on a monitor to my left lol.

In Win7, right click your desktop and go to screen resolution. Then just drag your monitors to reflect where the real monitors are.

So far everybody has been right. the comment from salvage-this was correct. drag to the left or right. either way for 1st monitor and 2nd. i do think its hard on the eyes for viewing and prefer both being same monitors, size and res. You might have to start over again and explain the problem. Im working with dual 24" Samsung Syncmasters. I can but don't need two taskbars because 1 works fine for me. On the other hand a proggy freeware and buy works well and can make your life easier. Ultramon. then you can have dual monitor wallpaper or whatever.

When you open display settings you can move where the monitors are, just click on one and move it and it will extend your desktop in that direction instead of the wrong direction.

Please say if that wasn't clear, its a little hard to describe but quite easy to do.

Edit:
Sorry, what I said has already been said, but this is still what you need to do, in this section you can just change which monitor is the primary monitor, this has no effect on screen positions.

As for dual taskbars, I'm unsure, I think you will want to be using some of the third party software mentioned above to pull that off but I have heard of it being done.

The settings tab will display a graphical representation of your monitors. Simply select a display by clicking on the boxes with numbers to set that specific display. [...]

The graphical representations of your monitors tell windows what physical position your monitors actually are. With out this, your mouse, or windows you drag over, wouldn’t cross the monitors in the right position. To identify which monitor is which, simply click identify button to see which numbered box represent which monitor. You can click and drag the boxes in order to have your monitors in the correct position.

This is under XP. For vista or 7 it's similar, just find where you configure your monitors. Then click and drag the boxes that are representing your physical monitors to the corresponding positions.

As simple as clicking and draging the boxes.
