Just a curious question....

Hey everyone,

Im running an AMD phenom ii x4 955 black edition processor
G-Skill DDR 3 1600mhz, EVGA GTX 260 core 216 Superclocked edition,
Asus M4A79XTD EVO Motherboard, Corsair 225 gig Solid State Drive.

Ok first question is when I first installed the processor it was running at 1.35v
at about 70 degrees celsius with the factory heatsink and fan. I moved the voltage down to 1.25v and now is cold as I guess your going to get it with the factory heatsink and fan. Idles at about 37 degrees celsius under load it never reaches 50. Will lowering the voltage underclock my processor and will it hurt it? Sorry not too smart in this field. Ok next question is when i play games say like call of duty world at war....I run the game on 1920 by 1080 with aa cut up to 2x everything on max......no anistropic filtering...really dont know what that deos and how big of a frame hit it would do...lol....But when it gets to scenes in the game on single player I can see like three white dots on the peoples faces when it shows them upclose.....My temps for my video card are fine and also my frame rate is fine.....I guess its about 80fps...whats the white dots? almost looks like sprites where the graphics come together....lol but im not sure. Anyways enough of my babbling lol I would really appriciate any responses that I get and helpful advice would be more than appriciated....

Thank You
Colby

Basicly, the more voltage the more stable your CPU will be. However, that comes with more temp as you know.

So by lowering your voltage, your CPU may be cooler, but less stable. Those artifacts you're getting is most likely caused by stability issues. If you still want to keep your CPU cool, you'll have to meet somewhere in the middle. Try rising the voltage a little and check to see if those artifacts are still there (rinse, repeat).

People who overclock their CPU use some benchmarking programs to check for stability. You could always give that a try. I beleive the most popular program is... umm was it SuperPI? I think that's what it was.

What video card do you have? Thats a large factor in FPS here.

If you hit 70c on stock settings, something is wrong. Perhaps you installed the HSF incorrectly? No thermal paste? Maybe try 1.30v for better stability, test that and tell us what kind of temps do you get.

Yeah, no factory processor will run at 70c. There's definitely something wrong.
