5770 or 4870

you bought the hd 5770 for $190? wow, you got a little ripped off there... i have seen them for $170 and (i think) $160. anyway, they are basically the same card, although i have heard that the 5770 scales better in crossfire. the 5770 consumes much less power as well. that might or might not matter to you though. here is a review comparing the fps:

keep in mind that the latest drivers are said to increase the hd 5770's performance in games. i believe for some games, running dx11 can give higher fps than dx10 (although on others it is the opposite).

Newegg has then as low as $150, and even $140 after rebate.
 
It was $188 after tax, but it is still a little more then I should of paid. Big upgrade from my 3870. From the link that you posted it seems to be right on par with the 4870, so in the interest if saving $70 I think I'm going to exchange it. I only game at 1280 by1024 res anyway. Besides this build is only until I7's and the 5870 drop in price, then I'm going to build a something with socket 1366, at least an I5. Then this will be my number 2 system.

It does very well, just as good as the 5770 with DX9, I can't say the same for anything higher as I'm still living in the past and using XP. But the price was right and it beats the hell out of every other card I have owned.
 
No point in living in the past, get a 5770 and overclock the memory on it, if these cards had a 256 bit memory interface they would be really beefy.

Yeah that was the main selling point over the 5770 for me. Once I build a new system and get Windows 7 then I really want a 5870, by the time that happens hopefully prices are down, which they will be with Nvidia's new cards.

Prices are not going to drop a lot. It's even possible not to drop at all. They will drop but it wont be soon.
 
4870 or 4890....5770 is alright and DX11 but no point in having DX11 yet anyway imo,better off having a powerfuller card.

now if we was talking about a 5850 o 5870 then things would be diffrent :)

It's [hopefully] going to be happening in late spring/early summer when the new nVidias are released. Tight spot to be in if you're building a computer (like me) because prices are very strange now.
 
I would have saved up for a 5850 but my monitor is only 1280x1024, which is quickly becoming the new 1024x768, if you know what i mean.

No point in buying something when my monitor bottlenecks it :P

if they had a 256 bit interface then they would practically be hd 5870s (except for stream processors).
