Why is my online game so slow?

I am facing a problem that my online game runs very slow. Does anyone has any idea to solve this problem.

to add to those links, if it is a game with dedicated servers (Unreal Tournament, Call of Duty, Battlefield, Team Fortress, Counter Striker etc etc etc) you can check up *MOST*, not all, servers here:

http://www.gametracker.com/

and it says where the server is based
