hi all i am ordering a new machine (gaming pc) wanted to get your opinions before going about purchasing the hardware. thanks

Case: Antec twelve hundred
PSU: Antec 850 w
Mobo: Asus P6T
CPU: Intel Core i7 930
Video Card: Gigabyte ATI HD 5870
Ram: Corsair 6GB (3x2gb) PC 15000 (1866MHz) DDR3
HDD: Seagate Baracudda 1Tb 7200 rpm
OS: Windows 7 Professional OEM

Yeah going to be gaming mostly never had a chance to get the good up to date games as you can see so yeah looking very much forward to that.
 
Go for the i7 920 over the 930, the 930 appears to be binned lower as its not overclocking as well as the 920's are.

By P6T,are you referring to the original P6T? If at all possible i would try to go with the P6Tv2.
 
Really i saw on a website that the 930s overclocked to 4.5 ghz where as the 920s could only reach 4.2ghz and as to the motherboard i will have a look at revision 2.
 
^ Except for some of their low end ones, Antec usually does not make weak PSU's. Although, there are generally better ones for the price. I do agree about dropping the wattage for better quality though...there's no way you'll ever use even 700W, much less 800W. (To put this in perspective, Guru3D tested a PSU using an overclocked Qx9770(136W stock), TWO Geforce GTX 295's, and a Geforce GTX 275, all on a power-hungry nForce 790i motherboard, and only reached 695W at peak load on everything. On a less efficient PSU(this was on an epic PCP&P), that would be 800W at most. I doubt you'll even use 500W.

I have seen 920's hit higher than 4.2, the 930 i doubt hit 4.5Ghz, especially on air. The general consensus among overclockers is that the 920 is a better cpu for overclocking.
 
Thanks for the replies living in Australia i am looking at buying the hardware through mwave all up the whole machine is going to set me back atm around $2300 Aud incl delivery. Only thing with dropping the W is if i decide to go crossfire i may need the extra W's then.
 
If you want to save some dosh why not go for the i7-860? it perfroms slightly better than the 920 i hear... but it's up to you, youd haveto change the mobo and ram out.

got any plans on an aftermarket cooler? no overclocking without one :P
 
Yeah wanted a 1366 board you know keep up with the times. And yeah gunna go with a Zalmann hsf when the time comes when i want more out of the cpu.

The 860 is not worth it because you have to get an lga1156 mobo which is not compatible with a lot of other stuff and is kind of a pain really

Wow those prices hurt. Looks like good stuff though. How about a CPU cooler? Too bad you dont know anyone is the USA to buy that stuff. What is the exchange rate?

Hey guys just wanted to let ya's know my pc arrived today and is now built check my sig for the parts. Although you will find it is pretty much the same as my OP. Thanks heaps guys now to start installing some games on this beast :P.

Very happy with the case could do with a bit of cable management lol will look into that later once i have all my files transferred over. i7's are the best processors on the market anything you need to do around your OS is instantaneous i would recommend this processor to anyone and everyone.
