CPU Code names

So iv noticed some people talking about CPU's with codes names. Mine being a crappy 'Conroe' with a 2mb cache. What does it mean? How do you know what your buying? And ive been looking to upgrade to a Quad core or perhaps a faster dual core that would be good to overclock and good for gaming, bring on the suggestions!

The names are just fancy names Intel gives to chips, I think. Look for a 45nm chip with good amount of cache, default speed is not as important, you can always OC it. For instance, If a had a choice of Q8300 and Q8400 I'd definetely go with Q8300, it's fair bit cheaper and only 166MHz slower.

Conroe is the 65nm Intel Core 2 Duo processors, which aren't crap at all, they aren't as good as the 45nm procesors, but are still good

You can find all of the codenames for intel here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_codenames

Ahh ok. I got told that the Conroe ones were a whole lot of crappiness. What should i be looking for then, name wise? Or it really doesnt matter? I really only look at clock speed (sometimes) and the Cache size.one is only 2mb atm so im looking for a 4 or 6 in another core 2 or a quad core.
