video issues with modern warfare 2

ok. new problem. playing cod mw2 with the computer listed in my signature. with xp the only problem was choppy intro video. i was using a 100 gig hard drive from a laptop which was always slow with everything. i bought the 500 gig hard drive and installed vista. excellent at everything else. the intro video stopped jumping around. but during game play the screen will turn black for about 5 or more minutes. ambient sounds still play. right before it comes back on you can hear ppl talking and stuff and then the video comes back on. then i can play for a couple of minutes more. i updated all the drivers. direct x and microsoft's c++ program that i saw the game install. this made it better but it still does it. anyone got any ideas?

now keep in mind that my video card needs a 400 watt power supply and im using a temporary 300 till my new 600watt comes in. could this be a contributing factor? i also have another 1 gig memory stick coming in.

any ideas or explanations greatly appreciated.
 
Is the video the opening video to the single player campaign? Like when the level is loading? If it is I am guessing that it is a ram issue. Min specs for xp is 512mb but jumpy videos is a ram problem... I think. :confused:

For the Black screen, that might be an underpowered gpu. I got the same effects when I tried to oc my 4850 and it was not stable (i'm assuming that it didn't have enough voltage to run at max oc). But you may be getting that effect because your gpu isn't getting enough power to support the standard settings.

You might scaling down the settings to help with the jumpy videos and if you can underclock your gpu, it might work better with the voltage that it has.

I would highly recommend that you do not play games with the 300w. Stressing the spare psu, which i'm assuming is an off brand, could overload it easily and possibly have major negative effects. Just wait for the 600w to come in to be sure that you have the power.
 
the video in the beginning of the levels loads and plays flawlessly (with the new 500 gig and vista). just the game play is affected. i get frustrated and quit in the middle of the pit. im gonna wait for the new psu to come in like you say. it should be in tomorrow and the extension for the 12v 4 pin will be here the day after. i had a feeling that could be the issue. just wasn't sure. thanx

Yes, i assume that he should have around 450w with that system. I use around 550-600w at max with my system. Oc-ed cpu, gpu and i run two 275's in sli.

blazin8556, i recommend you to do what Salvage told. Keep in mind that over-stressing the Psu to the limit can destroy it, along with your hardware (to a certain extent)..
 
new psu in and does the same thing. a friend of mine told me that vista is really no good for playing games. he said that is why it played ok on xp and pretty much not at all on vista. he suggested i try out windows 7. i have windows 7 in hand now. so i guess ill see how it goes when i come out on the other side.
 
ok. its all fixed and better now. xp it is. its running really well. i was able to get somewhere in the game and shoot a few ppl. lol
