ok, so i took apart my moms old pavillion, which was going great. however, when i flipped it over, a chip fell out. i figured out it is the one in this picture:

this is where it needs to go:

it has to fit in this frame:

but this bump is stopping it from fitting how it thought:

any ideas of how to put it in?

thanks

hey bkribbs,

It's hard to say - you'll just have to sort of mess with it - one of those deals where you'd kind of have to be there - can't really tell much from the other side of this computer screen, even with pictures (thanks for scaling them down - how'd you do it btw? I always just resize them before I upload?)

If it just 'fell' out of there, it can't be too damn hard to get it back in there, and if that part with the 'bump' is just plastic, I guess you could leave it out.

But maybe I'm not the best person to answer this - more often than not, when I take something apart, I have parts 'leftover' - always get it to work though... :D

i just reuploaded them, then edited the original post with the newer smaller pictures. and the frame with the bump is metal, and is also what holds the fan in place, so i cant leave it out. and, i know that the chip goes with the volume control, so if i leave it out, the volume wont work...

also, i forgot to mention, the reason i took it apart. it will not charge. this is because the power supply connector has come loose. i was wondering, could i use hot glue to hold it in place if i can get it right? like, if i figure out the correct position for it, can i hot glue it in place?

thanks

Are you sure - I mean, will it charge if you hold the power supply connection in place? If so, then yeah, or tape it or however you decide to do it.

positive, i can charge it if i sit there wiggling the power cord in place. do u think it would matter if i jsut decide to not connect the sound chip that i cant get back in? im about to give up on it. and i wont miss it much.

No, I would definitely get it back in - it might be a pain in the ass, but you'll learn how to do it, and also, I hate leaving things less functional than when I started. But whatever, it's your project. My comment about having "extra parts" meant screws, braces, guards, etc.

It can only go in there one way right? Maybe you could look at some pictures on the web of the board and that would help you?

yeah i know. but, it would be an improvement, considering we have not had it running in the last 1.5 years. so if i actually get it running, im going to go back in and fix it. i just needed to clear off the kitchen table before my mom gets too mad. (im only 14, so i dont have anywhere to work on it...)
