Wireless settings

what is best setup for my linksys usb wireless n adaptor but i have wrt54g v2 with speed boost.

thanks

what do you mean by best? i would say just connect it to the internet, and put a wpa with it to keep people out. and make sure your router is out in the open, you will get much better range

I highly recommend using WPA2 security if you can.

What particular settings are you looking for? Security? MAC Filtering? Radio settings? Usually the defaults are fine for most people - EXCEPT security settings and SSID. Always change the default SSID, admin password, and your wireless security settings.

i agree with all, except i prefer to leave the ssid. i believe that by not changing it, it is harder to identify where it is.

It's even harder to find (for those that don't know what they are doing) if you disable the SSID broadcast. And, it is usually easier for the typical end user to find their own signal if they choose the network name, hidden or not. This becomes more important if you set up your network in a WiFi dense area. Most people get confused when they see a dozen or more "Linksys" networks floating around.

If you do decide to change the name, don't use anything personally identifiable.

ok yeah, disabling the ssid would be a good idea. its just more difficult if you have to connect each device to it. but once connected, it is better. usually, if someone changes it, it becomes "so and so's wifi, or "this house"" or something. i would agree with zatharus, just disable ssid broadcasting.
