Hi

I have an old sony vaio laptop Model - VGN FE 25GP im Up grading for Fun!!

The main objective if this upgrade is to run windows 7

Just have bought two sticks of
VS1GSDS667D2 Corsair 1024MB PC2-5300 667Mhz DDR2 SODIMM RAM - Value Select.

IS there any Ram out There that is compatable Or Faster Than
VS1GSDS667D2 ??

Also Bought Seagate 250GB 7200rpm 2.5" Mobile Serial ATA HDD w. 16MB Cache (ST9250410AS) Momentus 7200.4 is This A Fast Dirve Will i notice the difference??

Dont wanna go ssd cause of price I will save the ssd drives for my asus rampage 2 build.

Any Suggestions or Comments??

Im very interested in changeing the CPU to the T7200 But could someone Please give me more information as to that CPU so i can hunt one down and also is is 2ghz the highest that you can run for this lap top??

Is that the - Mobile CPU Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 2GHz 4MB 667MHz ??? or can i run higher??

And if so what would that cost roughly and is ebay my best bet?

RAM - it support upto DDR2 667. Crucial seems cheaper BTW

HDD - I am not sure if you would notice the difference. BTW, your old HDD, you could get a case and use it as external HDD
 
The hard drive would probably provide a noticeable increase, the 7200.4 momentus drives are one of the faster notebook drives.

As far as wanting to run windows 7...its more than likely your GPU thats gonna hold you back than your processor or memory.

Also, i deleted your thread in desktop computers. Please keep to a single thread for the same question.
 
I ran Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, and it said it won't be able to run areo with my current Hardware strange any suggestions? Maybe its because i dont have a Gpu driver installed at current.

The requirements for window 7 are -Support for DirectX 9 graphics with 128 MB memory (to enable the Aero theme)

My sepcs are- Graphics Accelerator Dual display compatible ・3D graphics acceleration compatible ・NVIDIA® GeForce® Go 7400 with NVIDIA® TurboCache™*4 (PCI Express x16 connection)
Video Memory 256MB*4

Will windows 7 run with my current Gpu?

Ok thanks for all your help guys I am loveing the input and learning as well I have a currrent laptop a Asus N61JV-JX002V Core i5 its Mad!!

Im just upgradeing my old vaio for fun, to learn and to Boost up the old beast as much as i can!!

Ok can anyone tell me?? what is the best the fastest CPU i can upgrade to with my VGN FE25GP with out having to stuff around with changing bois, a Cpu that is compatable with my current motherboard one i can just Stright Swap..

I will run Windows 32bit!! to save any Hassles with chipset/drivers compatablity

upgrading laptop is kind a dilemma. U can't really upgrade graphic card, when it comes to CPU, there is limit that u can upgrade to since motherboard is not upgradeable. wish laptop industry develops standard size/model of each part just like desktop but.. i highy doubt they will since making unique system will give them more money

there is a company, i can't remember the name for the life of me, that uses desktop memory and processors. but that was when the sempron came out and it was using ddr1. i worked for a guy who was buying them and i had to put the memory and processor in and install xp.

Can i run the T7600 is that just a stright swap will this cpu work with my current BIOS?
