Can Virus hide a HD?

i think i acquired a virus. i had to re-install windows (on my cleaned hard drive), but now my computer does not see or recognize my additional, external usb hard drive. neither does my other computer. the HD light comes on, and i sense vibration, as if it is functional, but it still is not seen by either computer. this started only after the apparent virus infection on my internal hard drive.

is there anything i can do? could a virus have gotten to it and block access?

go into control panel-administrative tools-computer management-disk management
see if you drive is in there, also see what state its in ie "un allocated space or formatted ready to use/healthy!!"

if its in there and its showing as un-allocated space you have lost your partition/all the data on the drive

i tried that. it is nowhere to be seen. i can't imagine it's a mechanical failure, as it happened at the same time i got some sort of virus.

virus's can destroy hard drives you do know that!

is the drive in an external case? can you take the hard drive out of it and put it in your pc?

does your other usb devices work?

Make sure your USB port is configured correctly. Also make sure no other device is using drive letter D: E: or F:

First of all you can connect your external hard disk with another computer and check that your hard disk working perfectly or not. If then your problem not solve then that is a virus problem so you can download latest antivirus in your computer and scan your computer and delete that virus. After remove the virus your problem has been solve.
