from what ive been told and experienced this is a pretty much terrible card. What are some good replacements for it that arent super expensive?

how about a 5670? newer card, less heat and power consumption, and it is equal in performance to a 9800GTX+ (which is basically a GTS 250) and doesn't need a single PCI-E 6-pin connector!

Nope. Not pointless at all. Many people, new to computers think that the card with 2GB is always faster than a card with 512MB onboard memory. I know many people that would get this 9500GT instead of for instance 9800GT.

As a matter of fact, a slower gpu with more memory yields less performance.

Look up some benchmarks between the 4670 512mb and 4670 1gb, you'll see the 1gb version suffers from loss of performance where all of the video memory isn't being used.

However a GPU like the 9800gt would benefit from more (1gb) memory, to a point. (same goes for the 5670, which is about equal in performance)
