A thanks so far for all the input I have received so far. I was looking at Netbooks but I've given up because the cost is just overpriced for the pathetic processing power they have. I can't believe people are paying over $275 for these things.

I just want something that will enable me to just basically to read text files, look at pictures, do word processing and maybe listen to a little bit of music. A battery life of over two hours is desirable. I have several books in text format that I want to be able to load onto this. It's easier to carry around a small laptop rather than a load of books. I don't want to use this for the Internet at all.

I am looking for a notebook (laptop) now for under $340 that has between a 10 to 16 gigabyte solid state drive and preferably a small screen close to 12 inches. Any ideas for direction? I don't even mind looking at refurbished notebooks since they are cheaper.

You arent going to find a true laptop with what you want, solid state discs are expensive, and 12" screen is netbook territory.

I have to be honest too for a good laptop at that price you would be very lucky if you did find one under that price. You can search the net though you might find what you want.

Thanks for the input from everyone. DaisyMTC I think came the closest to what I want. I am probably just going to wait until the prices come down and get a refurbished laptop with a Solid State Drive or Netbook for under $275. Solid State Drives I know will give a significant boost in processing power and they won't eat your battery up. Time is on your side as far as technology goes with cost.

Well, SSD's dont increase processing power, they use similar power to hdd's when loaded. They do however make the entire system really snappy and allow fast load times.

Good luck

Seriously, SSD's themselves can be over $400 depending on size.
