Pros and cons about net books ?

ok found my own answer...1gb of RAM is awesome for these....yea no im gong to need waaaaaaaaaaaaaay more RAM :)

they have 4gb but ill spend the extra $100 on a laptop

Actually you can get 2GB models fairly easy. Asus has a dual core one that actually packs quite a punch for an Atom. Still won't compete with a regular laptop though.

Some of them are ridiculously uncomfortable to write with. Didn't think their ergonomics through before they released it.

I have owned a few netbooks and they are okay, if I might say though never was happy with them. Main reason is multi tasking. They can do it but not at the level a laptop can. In my opinion though I will say as fay as sturdy goes I did like the Dell mini 9 over the Asus eeepc I had. Lasted longer too.

Pros:

Small, light, portable, cheap, excellent potential battery life

Cons:

Slow(er), low screen resolution, no CD drives

I will have to check that one out. the kids just bought me an Asus Eee. 1gig ram and 160gig drive. And no cd. thats ok. it is light and very portable. thats all i wanted it for. Besides i consider it a throw away.

Poor build quality would put me off. You're paying ~$300 for a netbook. Say the retail shop gets 15% margin, then the supplier gets 15% for selling to the retailer, and the manufacturer gets another 15% for selling to the supplier. Then minus cost of manufacturing, labor, and the Operating System you end up with a machine that uses probably $100 total in parts. I wouldn't put any faith in a machine like that.

i would say pros:
small, portable
cons: small screen and keyboards, no cd drive, small hdd, small amount of RAM.
go for a laptop

Most computers are like that...

They're really not any worse than most laptops, except for the Acer ones...and even then they're not terrible.

hear netbook cannot change desktop background or other graphical settings which is a major con

Thats probably only the case for ones running basic windows. Any half decent netbook should be able to run home premium and thus wouldn't have that problem.

Yeah but the basic components they use are also extremely cheap. You can't compare it to a full size laptop as they use different components. It's like if you buy a cellphone for $300 would you feel that it's untrustworthy?

You can upgrade the hard drive and ram if you like. A small hard drive isn't really a problem for most people as they don't store a lot of media on a netbook.

I just bought the HP mini 311 note book, from Verizon with 2 year DATA plan it was $150...can’t go wrong.

GOT IT IN, it’s awesome for basic stuff but I build flash websites and I viewed some of them with my new HP and there c h o p p y, I went to Fry’s electronics and tried it on there’s thinking it might have been just my machine....same :(

I also ran youtube and was reading Outlook email at the same time...forget it, slow...i had high hopes :(

I didn’t really expect it to work like my HP DV6000 Dual core, i was only going to use it for surfing and showing clients there site when i went to go visit them on the field and turn on the Broadband without carry a hugh beast of a laptop, but it looks like for what i do it won’t work...

just saying, but i have the dell inspiron 6000, and it is great. i would stick will dell personally. we have just the dell laptop and it works terrific. we have 5 hp/compaq computers (desktops and laptops) and only 3 are in good shape. its not our fault, they just break

Hp been good to me, but in this sense I’m not saying one brand is better than the other, I’m just saying that a NETBOOk is not what i can use for flash sites...the processer us not built beefy enough.
