gtx 470

How do you guys feel about this card? I did some searching and didn't find a whole lot on here. Also searched reviews and found that it beats out the 5850 by a decent bit.

Currently I have a GTS 250 and its an OK card. Looking to upgrade. Is there any reason I shouldn't go with this card? Which brand would you go for?

If it were me I'd get a 5850. Nvidia took too long, and there cards just run too hot. Maybe look into a 5850 with a decent third party cooler (i.e Saphire Toxic 5850) Personally, I think the gtx 470 isn't worth it for the added performance you get over the 5850.

Edit: I just noticed you had a Corsair 550w PSU, which would be probably pushing it with a GTX470 anyway.

I would be upgrading to a 750w psu anyways. Would the 5850 be a big jump over the gts250?

^really, not worth the extra cost?

The 470 is 350$.(380$ for superclocked.)
the 5850 varies from 300-380$

The 470 is a better preforming card.
Yes, it does use more energy, and it will run hot, but price wise, i would go w/ the 470.

But idk bout that psu, pretty close, cause that 470 is a power hog haha.

Your prob gonna need to wait and see what other people say about the power consumption.

But i would go w/ the 470.

He means that there IS a big difference between the two. Also note that having the gtx470 running at 90c full load is pretty unhealthy for the rest of your system, but that's my personal opinion, if you'd rather the 470 than that's cool.

I would rather whatever card is best for the money and runs well. The 470 may be a mean card but I am hearing a lot of complaints about power consumption and heat.

Your UK humor is'nt very understandable to us yanks. Thanks you for the help though.

While the 470 seems to beat out the 5850, that's pretty much to be expected. nVidia (or any computer company) would be too ashamed to release an under performing part compared to its competition so long after said competition's launch. I'd wait and see how low the 5850's prices get though. Right now they're pretty level with the MRSP of the 470, but I'd wager an ATI price drop across the board once the GTX4X0 series gets into full swing. I'm underwhelmed by what I've seen from the new series so far, but they aren't exactly readily available, so we'll have to see how it pans out.
