Graphic card not working!

Hello, I recently purchaced a new graphic card due to my original card's poor performance. It is a (reading from the box) NVIDIA GeForce 6200. 512MB DDR2 / AGP 8x. <-- random things on box. I am new to this whole thing.

Well I looked on youtube and leanred how to install it on my computer. After I installed it and turned on my PC the screen remained black and nothing apeared. How do I get my graphic card to work?

Thanks :D

looks like the card has 2 VGA ports - have you tried both of them?? Plug your monitor into both slots and see if one of them is working. If not, plug your monitor into the onboard VGA port and see that it is working.

Did the computer actually turn on? You need to check that the graphics card is properly seated. Pull it out and reinsert it. Make sure that you get it all the way in evenly, and look at the bottom where the pins go into the AGP slot - you shouldn't be able to see the pins at all.

Then reboot, and try either VGA port on the card again. If not, try your onboard and post back here.

Okay, thanks for the reply. I will let you know after I try again.

Power supply wouldn't have to do with this right?

Is the computer getting the "boot-up beep"? If it is, then it should be getting power to the motherboard. Why do you ask?

Did you used to plug the monitor into a monitor port on the mobo? If so, take the card out, make sure that you have the most up to date drivers installed and reinstall the card.

No I didnt hear any beeps. I heard from my friend graphic cards might require more watts from the power supply to power it.

I tried both monitor port and motherboard. Where do you get the up the date drivers?

nVidia is nice because all of their cards use the same drivers. Pretty simple as far as these things go...

Do you know what wattage you have in your power supply? I'd recommend at least a solid 450W minimum, preferably over 500W; but it should still power up. However, if you're not getting the beeps from the motherboard at start-up, it's probably an issue with some faulty or improperly "seated" hardware. Try putting the computer back the way it was before when it worked for sure, and see if it still boots up that way.

So I just google nvidia driver update?

I actually don't I'll look into that next time I open up my computer again. Are there specific power supplies or are they universal? The graphic card's box says minimum of 300 watts required.

When I put in my old graphics card, the one that works my computer doesnt make the beep noise.

When I put in the new graphics card the computer boots up the the screen remains black with the power indicator flashing on and off on the monitor.

Return the card and try another. It sounds like this one is a dud.

Unless you have a very weak PSU, this probably isn't a direct issue. The 6200 isn't going to place a huge power draw on the AGP port.

Do you hear fans and the hard drive spinning when you power up the computer with the new card in it?

Yeah the monitor is acting like its in a power save mode.

Well I bought it a while back and never figured out how to do it so I think its too late for that :/ I do hear fans when I turn on the pc with the new card.

Well, if you can simply swap the old board in and have it work, it does sound like you have a dead new card. You should be able to get a replacement for under $50 if you can't return it.

Make sure you have plugged in the graphics card power supply, that will cause the graphics card to not function properly. But it does sound like its a faulty gfx card, or maybe its shorted. Id take it back m8 :)

The nVidia 6200 does not require additional power. It is a low power card that can easily draw all needed power from the AGP port. Even if it did require an additional power connector, the card would operate fine in a reduced power mode. Once booted, the drivers would then notify you that the card needs added power in order to function at peak performance.

boot your computer, enter your bios and make sure you have set your graphics from onboard (if you were using onboard before), to AGP slot and make sure the apature is set correctly.

If you need help, please reinstall your old graphics card, download PC Wizard and install it. Then go to FILE, SAVE AS and click OK. Copy the text from that text file and post it here. Also post the full model number and name on the PSU.
