360 problem! :(

Well i was able to just connect a Cat5 cable from my PC to my 360(I have dial up) and run windows media center extender for my 360 so i could watch my videos/music/movies and what not. But since i came back from my grandma's house i'm unable to do so unless i reconfigure it or uninstall/reinstall. I also can't system link when i was able to before i went to my grandma's house. I connected my 360 though her router/modem to play on xbox live this problem did happen at her house but i thought it was just a fluke my guess it's something wrong with the 360 when i try to test connection i get "Can't obtain an IP address from your router or modem"

Game tried to play was Modern Warfare 2 on Tuesday we were confused i tried it though his router and direct connect to his 360 neither worked.

Most likely your network setting are all messed up now. Make sure they match your own network settings.
 
They are all on automatic :( oh and at my friends house i was able to connect to xbox live even though it wasn't great on wireless <40% sig strength lol

yes it says it's receiving an IP in the settings(On Automatic) but when i try media center it says can't obtain IP
 
Step 2 is what i've been doing Step 1 don't have an external modem. (On dial up) When i'm on dsl(once every few months) it works just fine plugging it into the router.
