How Does HDMI work?

I'm thinking of connecting my laptop to my HDTV, but not sure how it works. My laptop does have a HDMI Port. Do i just buy a HDMI video cable then connect them or do i need to install some sort of software on my laptop. Do i also need to do any setup on my t.v aswell? Thanks in advance!

You just need to get an HDMI cable long enough to hook up from your TV to your computer. And then just change the Input to your TV to "HDMI-#" and then I think for most Laptops it's Alt+F4 to change the output. Each laptop/tv is slightly different, but that's what you basically do.

Make sure your drivers support both audio and video over HDMI, most HDMI ports do, but some don't.

Just a quick clarification: I think/hope you mean Fn+F4.

...Alt+F4 does very different things.
