Clocking RAM

I've been running 2X2GB DDR3 at all auto settings (has been running around 669MHz)for a week and it has been fine. The RAM says that it is made for 1600MHz 1.65V 9-9-9-24. So, I go into the BIOS and change the frequency to 800MHz and the Voltage setting to 1.65V. When I use speccy to monitor my computer settings, it shows me this:

4.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 803MHz 11-11-11-29


Shouldn't that last part be reading 9-9-9-24?
Would I be able to set it to 9-9-9-24 in AMD Overdrive?

Also, speccy says this:

Type DDR3
Size 2048 MBytes
Manufacturer Corsair
Max bandwidth PC3-10700H (667 MHz)
Part number CMX4GX3M2A1600C9
SPD Ext. EPP

Notice the max bandwidth. It says 1600MHz on the stick of ram but in speccy it says a max bandwidth of 667MHz which would be 1333?? Is this correct or is speccy lying?

Unless you're benchmarking you will see no difference at all. more likely you will see stability problems. Set them to 9-9-9-24 and the rates speed and voltage.

I disagree. I have my ram at 7-7-7-20 instead of 7-9-7-22 or something and my comp is much faster.

Need to make up your mind. You said you went from 7-9-7-22 to 7-7-7-20. But in your signature you have 7-8-7-20. Plus it doesnt really matter, that small of a increase in timing would make no difference at all.
 
Okay, I see where you can change the settings in the BIOS now. I was confused by the DCT0 and DCT1 but I guess I should select both? That's what I did. BTW I did notice a difference in performance when set at 9-9-9-24. Everything loaded a lot faster. I am going to keep my RAM at these settings for now until I get my CPU and everything where I want it.

Also, should I just leave the HT frequency and width where it is? My goal is to overclock my CPU to about 3.5 or 3.6. Will increasing HT frequency or width or anything increase performance? Or is it not worth it?

When I run a stability test which uses 100% CPU for 1 minute my CPU temp gets to about 52° Celsius when set at default settings. The maximum recommended temperature is 62° Celsius. I overclocked my CPU to 3.5GHz and got the same 52° Celsius. Keep in mind this is only for one minute. I am afraid to go any longer than that because I do not want to overheat my CPU or shorten the life of it (by any noticeable amount). What do you guys think?

I forgot to update it sorry. actually I get a few more fps here and there and the computer boots up a bit quicker.

you can hit 3.5-3.6 easily with just the multiplier, you won't need to change the memory settings. You are on a 955, put the multi up so it is 3.3 rather than 3.2 and see if it is stable without changing voltage. To test stability, download HWmonitor and prime95(Prime 95 32 bit Prime 95 64 bit) Prime 95 tests the stability by stress testing (pushing the processor to its limit) and hwmonitor will show temperatures.

If it is stable, knock it up half a mutli and try again. Keep going until you hit 3.6 stable, or until it bsods or freezes. Once it does that, put the voltage up by the smallest increment and try again until it is stable.

Keep an eye on those temperatures.

If temperatures are worrying you, get an aftermarket HSF.
 
Thanks a bunch. BTW, I got 2 blue screens today. The only programs I can remember installing are adobe photoshop. Aren't blue screens cause by driver issues? I am really worried about this blue screen crap. This computer is supposed to be good. Maybe I'm just doing something wrong.

It really depends on the stop code. If it happens again, write down what the code is. They can be software, hardware, drivers, or any assortment of things.

Really? When mine came up a few days ago, it didn't disappear. I had to hold the power button to restart. What about taking a picture? That's what I did :P
 
No mine only lasted about 3 seconds it looked like it was going through some kind of process and then just restarted. Not sure what I'm going to do but oh well lol
 
Hm. Well as long as they are not to frequent, it usually isn't a big deal. But if it gets on your nerves, catch the code and we can help ya out.
 
I have noticed the same thing on my RAM. Speccy says it's running at 667Mhz but I thought it was supposed to be much higher. I don't like to OC, but I want to make sure I'm getting what the stock should be out of my RAM. Do you know if it is safe to bring up DRAM frequency without hurting the RAM? I would rather be safe and not touch it, but if it is SUPPOSED to run at a higher frequency, I'm down to manually clock it.

Does anyone have any information regarding this?
