Internet modem and wireless router not conecting

OK, so I'm at my wit's end with this! My internet went offline and I am having a lot of trouble reconnecting it. Initially, I couldn't get the internet light (PPP) to change green, but I logged into 192.168.1.1 and reconnected. Now the internet light on the modem lights up green and I can connect to the internet by connecting the ethernet cable to my computer.

The problem arises when I then try to connect the ethernet to my linksys wirless router. Despite all 4 modem lights being green (including ethernet) and all appropriate lights (including internet) being green on the router, I still can't get wireless internet!!

The router is transmitting, as it was showing on my list of wifi as 'linksys', so I logged into the router and changed the SSID and the WPA. So, it would seem that something is going wrong between the modem and the router.... question is: WHAT???

Your ideas and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Please keep the language basic as I'm not very techie and all this is pretty new to me!

Is this a new router setup - or was it working fine before and something happened that it stopped working?

If it's a new setup - I had a similar problem adding Linksy's router to my modem and the C.S. rep had me change the settings on the Wireless router - "192.168.1.1 " on the Wireless router - to " 192.168.2.1 "

The Modem 192.168.1.1
Wireless Router 192.168.2.1

If you can't get it working - Linksy's telephone Cust service is excellent walking you through setup.

A little information on how your connection went offline in the first place might help.

Are you getting an internet connection through your Linksys router when connected with a Ethernet cable - not via WiFi?
