Internet Connection Sharing?

I have the computer listed in my sig. It has an internal wireless adapter. I also have an external card. I have my sister's desktop that I would like to get internet to. With the internal card, it is hooked up for regular internet. The external also is connected to my router, but it shares the connection. (ICS). My sister's desktop and my laptop are connected with an Ethernet cable. (I don't know if that's what they are called, but you know what I mean.) I have gotten as far as the desktop saying it is connected, but then it says that it doesn't work, as it doesn't get assigned an IP by my laptop... Help?

Thanks,

You need to use a crossover cable between PC's so they can actually talk to each other.

So it has to be a special cord? I can't use the Ethernet cord?

This is similar to what I am using:

A crossover cable is a type of ethernet cable. Did you try setting the network settings manually?

I messed with them some. I'll post shot of what they look like when I have time later. Busy now.

Actually, I can't right now. What should the settings be? The first wireless card setting I don't need to mess with right? And the second one I have set up to connect to my router, then share the connection. The IP address for the second card is 192.168.0.1, mask, 255.255.255.0, and gateway is 192.168.1.1, which is the routers ip. I have the DNS's set up correctly also I think.

Then, I have the cable in the Ethernet plug in the laptop and the desktop. What should I set for the static ip of the desktop? The subnet mask is 255.255.255.0, and the gateway is 192.168.0.1, which is the wireless card that is sharing the connection's ip. Then what do I put for the IP's? Thanks for helping

It should be as easy as using a crossover cable between the 2 machines and running the network setup wizard and set up ICS. Why can't you connect her computer directly to router?

I have the computer upstairs and the router is downstairs. And I can't move either. And when I set up ICS it says the laptop doesn't give the desktop a IP address.
