OK...so I need to build a new computer because my desktop is a dinosaur (dell dimension 1100 or something) and my laptop isn't really meant for gaming.

I'm looking to build a computer that can run starcraft 2 at decent settings.

If I'm looking to spend 700-800 on building a PC, what should i dedicate to each thing? I don't want to get stuck buying a couple of nice things with other crap components.

I already have keyboard, mouse, monitor and an OS

thanks

^ Google is actually fairly bad for learning about new components, and which ones to buy. You frequently end up with guides that are a year or more old, which is bad because new computer parts come out monthly.

Just use this guide. I did when I built my first computer. Spend some time on this forum posting parts in one thread and see what people think. I spent 6 months on this forum researching before I actually built one ( you dont have to, i just wanted to get my money's worth).

Making sure parts are compatible is the big thing, then swap things out for better performance/price.

Everything in my signature (put together) doesnt go over $800 I think, you could even get a 5770 gpu instead of the one I have and it will be about $700.

Use Newegg.com for parts. Best place to order from. Reading reviews is important as well!

Okay, check this out. With tax and shipping this comes out to $800 even (that's not including $35 in mail in rebates). The cpu is a quad core, that thing is beast and will last you years. The Mobo is an AM3 socket, future proof, so if you wanted to upgrade to a 6 core cpu later, you can. The graphics card runs any games today at great settings, even maxed out with great frame rates. The graphics card supports dx11, the future in gaming graphics. Every part has great reviews.

So again, this computer is good for the next few years and even then you can overclock to make it last longer. And yes, it can play Starcraft 2 and blow it away.

If there is an issue with the parts/price let me known and ill adjust some things. But, this is everything you would need to order and you will be all set.
