New cpu lowers base score???!!!

Ok I have just upgrade to a AMD Phenom ll x4 955 3.2 ghz cpu from a athlon x2 5400+. I eagerly ran the update windows experience score to see my big jump. Before it was at 5.3 limited only by the cpu, everything else was and still is at 5.9, after it completed, I saw to my utter horror it actually dropped to 4.7!!! What the hell is this about??? When I click on properties in the computer tab from the start button it lists my processor as AMD processor model unknown 803Mhz. I DON'T GET IT!!! This is a brand new just bought today from Microcenter. Does anyone know anything about this? I am using a AM2 socket, but from what I have heard and read, the AM3 processor is 100% backwards compatible. These are my specs:

AMD Phenom ll x4 3.2 GHz Quad Core
Xion 800 watt psu
PNY XLR8 GTS 250 video card
Asus M2N68-LA motherboard
4gb Corsair & Kingston ram

Please please help me out here if you can.

If its listing the processor as unknown the motherboard doesn't fully support the processor and a bios upgrade if available would should fix the issue. I'm taking this is an actual HP computer? It's not a branded asus motherboard but an actual Hp motherboard that asus only sells to HP and HP would provide support for it.

Yes this is a compaq that over the past months i have been upgrading. I bought it about 2 years ago. It's the compaq sr5550f. Now to be honest with you I am pretty new to this stuff, thus far I have just been upgrading hardware and never had to go into bios. I don't even know what bios is or how to get to it. Do you think just getting an awesome motherboard will solve this problem? Is it even a problem??

Yes, getting a non OEM motherboard would fix your issue. Thats the problem about taking a store bought PC and trying to upgrade later on, CPU support sucks on most OEM computers. I was hoping to find a motherboard similar to that one so you wouldn't have to reinstall windows but the M2N68 series is getting outdated and only 1 is availabe on newegg but only has 2 memory slots. You would have to do a total reinstall of windows with a new motherboard.

Here is a good overview of the bios

flashing your bios should get you the the performance that you need. Just to clear one thing up, I think the reason that you are getting 800mhz for your 955 is because of a feature called cool n quiet. Basically it will take down the multiplier in order to save energy and to produce less heat. When your pc identified your processor it was probably running at 200x4. So it saw it as a 800mhz quad core.

For your question about motherboards, I am guessing that your pc does not have standard motherboard mounts (ATX, micro ATX...) and would not be able to fit a new one unless you bought a new case as well.

Hope this helps!

Cool and quiet may be running but the problem is, the system can't identify the processor so the bios would have to be updated if there is a cpu support update for it.

If you plan on buying a new motherboard, you should consider buying a new case as some oem cases don't take to NON OEM motherboards too well.

I was thinking pretty much the same thing as you guys as far as the motherboard & case. When I was at the store today I had to fight back the urge to buy them. But in the past week or so I've spent over 500 bucks on the video card/cpu/psu/and fans. Do you think if I wait a week or two for the rest and just run the comp as it is now that damage or something will occur??

NO damage should occur but you most likely won't be getting the full potential from your cpu.

Thanks a lot for your time and info man. By the way I was looking at motherboards from gigabyte earlier, how is yours working for you? Pretty good?
